Local Submariner Burial Site at
IVY GREEN CEMETERY
Bremerton , Washington

Under the
leadership of then Base Cdr Jim Foote, a submariners burial site was
brought to life at Ivy Green Cemetery in Bremerton, Washington.
In
1995 the City of Bremerton passed a resolution dedicating 40 burial
sites at Ivy Green Cemetery specifically for burial of those veterans
who have served in submarines of the United States Navy.
Subsequently, in 2002, USSVI-Bremerton Base placed a stone
monument there commemorating those submarine veterans. Ivy Green
Cemetery is located at 1401 Naval Avenue, at the opposite end of Naval
Avenue from Naval Station Kitsap-Bremerton, generally known as PSNS.
Submarine
qualified veterans (DD-214 required) and their spouses are eligible for
this honor. A full burial (side by side) for a submarine veteran and his
spouse would require two sites, purchased at the same time. A single
site would be adequate for inurnment of cremated remains of a veteran
and spouse.
Charges
related to purchase of sites or burial services including cremations are
based upon mailing addresses of individual parties. Non-Bremerton
residents and those with P.O. Boxes will pay a 20% increase on all
charges.

For example,
a grave site purchased in 2008, would cost a Bremerton resident $917.00
and a non-resident $1100.00. This initial plot cost does not
include additional burial costs such as opening/closing the grave,
liners, markers, etc. Services and costs are reviewed annually by the
Bremerton City Council and adjusted as appropriate.
The City of Bremerton does
not accept partial or time payments. Site purchases must be paid in full
(and at one time) prior to preparing site deed and the purchaser is
responsible for filing their deed with the Kitsap County Auditor.

Thirty-four Subvet burial sites are currently available and may be
purchased anytime. For additional information contact Mr. Tom Cressman
at 360 473 5309.
