Base September General Membership Meeting Summary

(Posted 9-17-2014)

Last evening, about 25 to 30 members met for the monthly meeting at the Bremerton FRA 29 facility.  Primarily a business meeting, some time was spent listening to comments of those that attended the national convention in San Francisco.

(It is easy to criticize, but for those who have had direct involvement in putting on such a large affair, can sympathize with the logistics and planning that goes on to make them successful.  Most convention organizing members involved did not live close to Burlingame.  Now that National is involved in these events, they can share credit for the level of success, as well as the local members.

Comments by those who have attended a few conventions, me, for one believe, with exceptions, that smaller cities seem to be able to do a better job, as they appreciate the business./ed)

One item that was important was the fact this was the USSVI's 50th anniversary and little or no hoopla was made of it.  Enough said!

Base officers and committee chairmen gave their reports, all in order, with an increasing balance in the base treasury.

We need a volunteer to pull the Bonefish float at the Auburn Veterans Day parade, Sat, November 8th.  Parade starts at 11AM. Call or e-mail Cdr Jim DeMott (360-895-0547).

Also, the fireworks sale needs a volunteer to manage it.  The profit of this sale is generally split in some manner between the general fund and the scholarship fund. Please Call or e-mail Cdr Jim DeMott (360-895-0547).  It is worthwhile and rewarding, but time consuming for the manager for a 2 or 3 week period in late June and early July.
