Request for assistance

(Posted 8-05-2014)

Base Commander Sends:

This e-mail is a request for assistance.

In less than two weeks, the Bremerton Base is schedule to appear in the Celebrating Military Services parade in Tacoma. We currently have no way to pull our float in the parade. We need someone who is willing, and has a vehicle that is able, to pull the Bonefish float.

The date is Saturday, August 16. The parade starts at 6:00pm. I don't have the exact time for being staged, but I would think we would need to be staged around 4:00pm. The float is at Bangor and could be picked up at any time (i.e. the night before, that morning, or prior to leaving). I would be able to assist in getting access to the Bangor base, if needed. I don't remember exactly, but I would say that we should be done with the parade by 7:00 pm. The float could be returned at your convenience (that night, next day, etc.).

Please let me know as soon as possible if you can do this. If you have any questions, let me know.

Greg Fessler Memorial Service, Sailor, Rest your Oar!

(Updated 8-04-2014)

Bremerton Base members, near 18, were in attendance at Greg's memorial service at the Christian Life Center in Port Orchard, Friday afternoon, August 1.

Two to three hundred  people were attendance.  It was clear that Greg, a local boy, was highly respected as a person and a submarine veteran. We made comments about Greg when attendees were asked for input.

Greg's participation in base activities was also shown in a very nice video tribute.

Connie Fessler Sends:

"Please pass on to all the other sub vets for their attendance at the memorial service. Seeing all those guys with their vests on made me so proud to have been a part of that special organization.
Thanks for all the help you have given us.
Connie (and family)"

Next Event: Celebrating Military Service Parade, Daffodil Festival, Tacoma

(Posted 8-03-2014)

The Daffodil Festival is proud to present the second annual Celebrating Military Service Parade on August 16th, (starting at 6 PM) and do its part in making the celebration a tradition, in a community so known for its military support.

Bremerton base plans to participate in this parade as it did in 2013.  (However, we need a volunteer to pull the Bonefish float.  Call or email mail John Gardner (360-692-8994) or Steve Corcoran (360-471-2704)).  Details to follow.

United States Submarine Veterans
Next we have the United States Submarine Veterans from the Bremerton and Tacoma Bases. After World War II, every state took one of the submarines lost in WWII and adopted it as their own. Washington State was proud to adopt the USS Bonefish. On this float is a model of the bridge of the USS Bonefish. It was lost on June 18, 1945 in the Sea of Japan. Pennants around the rails have the names of all of the submarines that were lost in World War II. Today, the United States Submarine Veterans are pleased to honor Paul Christenson, a WWII submarine veteran riding on the float today in his green vest. — at Tollefson Plaza.
